These users are in two different countries (40 in Sri Lanka and over 40 in Australia) with the Australian users mainly in our offices in North Sydney with ‘work from home’ personnel in WA, the ACT, Sydney suburbs and the NSW Central Coast. All VoIP services are delivered over our own VoIP switches and servers located in our State PoPs

Moving From ‘Conventional’ Telephony To VoIP

Your current ‘PABX’ will remain installed and will continue to direct all inbound calls which will continue to be delivered to you via your current ISDN or PSTN lines; all inbound numbers remain the same. Exetel will configure the Cisco VoIP controller to your exact requirements and then deliver it to your offices together with the new IP handsets. You can use either an Exetel contractor or your own telephone system contractor to connect the VoIP controller to your current PABX and connect the IP handsets to your current computers.

At this time your personnel will still be using the current telephone handsets to make and receive calls.

You will test the new VoIP service one extension at a time by simply picking up a VoIP handset and dialing some pre-agreed test numbers to ensure connectivity, quality and speed exactly match your expectations. You will do this yourself and when you are satisfied your/our contractor will divert the incoming calls from the current handset to the replacement VoIP hand set. You will then test incoming calls to that hand set and once you are satisfied you will proceed to the remaining hand sets on a schedule that suits you.

What Happens If My VoIP Connection Fails?

In the unlikely event that the SHDSL/Ethernet VoIP connection fails then the VoIP handsets will automatically make outbound calls via your PABX – inbound calls will be unaffected as all calls are still delivered via your current PSTN or ISDN lines.
